Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has assured his administration's backing for the legion and families of fallen soldiers, ensuring they lead meaningful lives. This commitment was reiterated at the 2024 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day held at Jolly Nyame Stadium in Jalingo.
Governor Kefas, upon arrival, inspected a guard of honor by Nigerian Army officers, partaking in laying wreaths alongside top government functionaries, a symbolic gesture honoring fallen soldiers. A release of pigeons echoed a call for peace in the land.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Kefas emphasized the intertwining of Taraba State's history with the bravery of its armed forces, lauding their dedication in safeguarding borders and communities. He underscored the need for deep respect for their commitment and resilience.
The Governor urged remembrance of fallen soldiers' families and pledged his administration's support for both the families and the legion, emphasizing the quest for a meaningful life. Additionally, he called for collective commitment in providing the armed forces with the necessary resources for training and care, ensuring a safer and prosperous state.
In a heartfelt vote of thanks, retired Warrant Officer Samaila Nuhu, Chairman of Nigeria Legion Taraba State Council, highlighted the state's significant population of ex-service men and women. Nuhu appealed for the renovation of the legion's office and vehicles, urging Governor Kefas to come to their aid.
Nuhu also appealed for support to families and widows of fallen soldiers, advocating for government assistance through skills acquisition training to enhance their economic prospects.
The event drew a distinguished crowd, with government officials and traditional rulers from the state in attendance, marking a touching moment of remembrance and commitment to those who have served.
