Reno Omokri, a former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, has suggested that Nigeria adopt a multiple minimum wage system, similar to the United States. This proposal comes after the 36 state governors declared their inability to pay a minimum wage of ₦60,000.

Omokri’s plan includes:

– A minimum wage for the federal government

– 36 separate minimum wages for each state

According to Omokri, this approach recognizes the financial disparities between states and prevents poorer states from being burdened with the same minimum wage as wealthier states.
